China Telecom to Push Pan-China Rollout of CDMA Services

Along with the release of the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phone tender results in early September, China Telecom plans to set up nationwide network subsidiaries under the name of China Telecom Tianyi Network, in a bid to initiate the pan-China rollout of CDMA services in 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, Xinhua News reported on September 4.

According to said report, China Telecom, Tianyi Network and other unlisted subsidiaries plan to jointly inject 29.3 billion RMB (US$4.3 billion; US$1=6.8 RMB) into the construction of CDMA networks. As per the investment scheme, Tianyi Network will finance the construction of core mobile networks, while China Telecom and other unlisted companies will invest in basic network infrastructure. Details as to the timetable of network rollout have not been disclosed yet.
